Dr. Tim Kaufmann, Chief Executive Officer

Tim is the founder and CEO of enmodes GmbH. He has worked several years as head of the numerical simulation group of the Department of Cardiovascular Engineering of RWTH Aachen University, where he also completed his PhD in 2011 with distinction. Tim has lead and completed many research projects and is an internationally recognized expert in computational modeling. Prior to founding enmodes, he studied physics at RWTH Aachen and NTNU Trondheim.

Dr. Simon Sonntag, Chief Operating Officer

Simon coordinates the strategic research activities of enmodes. He completed his PhD at the RWTH Department of Cardiovascular Engineering where he served as head of the research group, providing extensive experience in coordinating different research trades and working with validation techniques. Additionally, Simon is our pioneer for Fluid-Structure-Interaction and turbulence modeling. Prior to his PhD, he studied Applied Mathematics at TU Munich and NUS Singapore.

Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Fiete Böhning, Head of Engineering Services

Fiete has worked at RWTH Aachen as a project leader for the research and development of blood pumps. His focus was the design, manufacturing and experimental evaluation of a long-term implantable centrifugal pump and a short-term expandable catheter based pump. During his university studies, he worked for 8 months on mechanical and in-vivo testing of a surgical glue in the Edelman Laboratory at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology in Boston, USA. Fiete is our expert in circulatory support systems, with a strong background in CAD, manufacturing and experimental testing. He completed his PhD in 2013 at the RWTH Department of Cardiovascular Engineering and has a Master in mechanical engineering.

Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wirt.-Ing. Ralf Borchardt, Chief Technology Officer

Ralf has worked as a project leader for industrially driven projects at RWTH Aachen. He is our expert in gas and heat exchange, with a strong background in CAD and numerical modeling as well as in-vitro experiments in compliance with ISO standards. He completed a Master of Business Administration with focus on project management in addition to his Master’s in mechanical engineering.

Dipl.-Ing. Sascha Groß-Hardt, R&D Project Manager

Sascha is our lead pump designer and expert for CFD modeling of rotary blood pumps. He completed his Master’s in Computational Engineering Sciences and has designed and worked with axial, centrifugal and mixed flow blood pumps, both extra and intra corporeal. Sascha coordinates the activities of our student coworkers for rotary pumps and serves as a consultant to all of our pump design projects. He is furthermore our expert for hydrodynamic bearings, Design of Experiments (DoE) and goal-driven optimization.

Kristin Hugenroth, M.Sc., R&D Project Manager

Kristin started working for enmodes as a student coworker. After completing her Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, she joined us as a research engineer and is now our expert for system and multi-scale simulations as well as multi-physics approaches and lumped parameter modeling.

Philine Ritter, M.Sc., R&D Project Manager

Philine is supporting our lung assist projects with a special focus on manufacturing processes, in vitro testing as well as preparation and coordination of in vivo trials. She is also the head of our laboratory.
